Another Full Week!

Another full week and we were busy!

  • We celebrated our persuasive writing this week and began our new unit over informational writing!  Students have created a plan for their informational writing and will begin to research and take notes next week.
  • We are learning Geometry in math.  This week students worked on creating their own Geometry Town.  The towns includes parallel, perpendicular, and intersecting roads.  They also had to create building using a variety of polygons.  We will continue this unit next week.

  • We are finishing up chapter 6 in Social Studies. This week we learned about Freedom Quilts and created one of our own! We will have a test next Wednesday. Students have their study guides in their binders.

  • I have sent home a class list for students that would like to pass out Valentines on Valentine's Day. Students are not required to pass out Valentines, but if they do, they need to have one for each student in our classroom.
  • Students will be treated to Little Caesars Pizza next Thursday!  Dr. Parker will be treating the fourth grade to lunch because of all their hard work on our monthly eValuate tests!  If students do not like pizza or want something different, they can bring their lunch. What a fun way to celebrate!

Geoboards

Hi this is Sam blogger of the week. today we use an awesome app on the ipads called Geoboard. We had to make polygons and angles and lines out of rubber bands. We are doing this because we are learning about geometry in math. I think it was awesome!

Here is a link to the app:

This week in room 35...

Today was our school wide Spelling Bee. Morgan and Josiah did a wonderful job representing our class! We enjoyed cheering them on!

Here is what we are working on in class:

Math- We are finishing up our division chapter and are starting on Geometry.  Geometry is a change of pace from multiplication and division. The students usually enjoy this chapter and  the different projects we do.

Reading- We are continuing to work in our reading groups reading a variety of writing- fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and articles. As we move forward we are going to focus on finding evidence from the reading in our reading responses. Continue to encourage your child to read at home each evening. They are doing a terrific job!

Writing- We are finishing our persuasive essays and will be moving on to our Expository writing unit. Students will be creating a book over different topics.

Social Studies- We are learning about Slavery in Missouri and the Underground Railroad.

Science- Our next Science unit will begin in a few weeks. We will be learning about electricity.

Other details:

  • Just a reminder there is no school on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
  • Book orders are due next Wednesday.  If you would like to order online click on the picture below.

 Have a great weekend!
