Donze's Details 8-30-13

• We have begun our Word Work rotations this week. Lists have been passed out and are in the writing section of students binders. Students can access Spelling City to practice their words.  Here is the link: http://www.spellingcity.com/

• We will have a quiz over rounding on Wednesday.  We have practice this skill in math for 2 days and students are doing a great job.  I want to make sure they understand the concept completely before moving ahead!
• Long Lawn Day is next Friday.  Please have your student wear tennis shoes!

• Friday homework was sent home today. It is a Math practice sheet due next Friday. 

• No school on Monday. Enjoy the long weekend!

Last week we had two special guests, Mr. Davitt and Ms. Marsh,  teach us about BYOD.  Students brought their devices, learned how to log on to the network, and learned how to send email!  Students worked together to problem solve issues and learned a lot.  

Hand Island Projects

Hi this is Josiah and Katie class bloggers of the week! We are learning about landforms in social studies this week. We are making hand-islands to show different landforms. Our islands are called Middle Earth and Chocolate Island. Check out our cool pictures!

Thank you for coming to curriculum night! If you were unable to make it a folder with class information will be sent home with your child.  Also take a look at what we have been doing our first week from the video below!  I look forward to working with these these great students this year.

  Here is what will be doing next week.

• Students will have a quiz over the continents and oceans on Tuesday.  They have a map to study in the social studies section on their binder.
• Friday homework was given out today.  It is a reading assignment and will be due next Friday.
• During math this week, students cut out multiplication flashcards to keep in their binders and study. We will begin taking timed multiplication quizzes after labor day.  Please encourage your child to study their facts!
• Book orders were sent home on Tuesday.  If you would like to order online click the picture below. 

Math centers

Hi I'm Thomas, I'm the boy blogger of the week. This week we started math centers. We have four stations: the first one is an activity. We cut out math flashcards and put them in our binders. The second one is the problem solving worksheet. It's about rounding and money. The third station is the game. It's about a card game with place value worked into it. The fourth station is Xtra math. Xtra math is a computer website to practice math facts. I love math.

Donze's Details 8-19-13

Our first full week is off and running! Today we talked more about expectations and began most subjects. Here are a few details for this week!

•  Your child has a spelling list to study for a test this Friday. The list is in the writing section of their binder. This week every student will have the same list, however in the weeks ahead students will have different lists as part of the Words Their Way program.

• We filled out a map with the seven continents and four oceans. We will have a quiz next Tuesday!

• Tomorrow I will be sending home "Flyer Folders". These will have Lindbergh notes or student work. Please take out the papers and return the folder to school. 

• Book orders will be sent home this week! If you would like to order books online the link is below.

  

• Curriculum Night is this Thursday at 6:00! Please come to learn about our classroom. I look forward to seeing you!

Great Start!

We had a great first two days! The students are very sweet. I look forward to working with them this year! We spent time this week doing get to know you activities, discussing school expectations, and we starting leaning about habit that help us be a leader. We read and discussed "beginning with the end in mind" from the book 7 Habits of Happy Kids.  Student wrote down goals that will help them "soar" on balloons and attached their pictures to them.  Come to curriculum night on Thursday at 6 to check out the final product!

Snack tomorrow!

Thank you to everyone who came to Ice Cream Social!  I enjoyed meeting you and look forward to getting to know the students better this year. One thing I forgot to mention was snack time! Please have your child bring a snack to school each day.  We eat lunch at 1:00. Since our lunch is late in the day, I am planning on the students eating a snack mid morning.  No NUT items please!  Thanks so much!

Tuesday Evening Treats
