Missouri Maps

This is Logan from Mrs. Donze's room and I am this weeks class blogger.

This week in Social Studies we worked on our Missouri maps.

For our test we needed to know the states that border Missouri, the visual  artists, writers, and the jazz musicians from Missouri.
Many immagrants live in Missouri. Immagrants are people who move from one country to another country.

Buddy Bracelets

Hello this is Allison!  I am this weeks student blogger!  Last week we meet with our first grade buddies in Mrs.Theodore's class. We made buddy bracelets. We used a pipe cleaner and beads to learn about each other. Every bead represented something different, like pink was for a girl and blue was for a boy. We learned how many siblings they had how many pets they had and much more. It was a blast!

Long School Expectations

During the first day of school, students participated in rotations to learn Long School Expectations.  We learned about using a "5s" line in the hallways (silent, still, straight, slow, and smiling), had a refresher on how to correctly use the recess equipment, discussed safe bus behavior and what to do when exiting the bus before school, cafeteria etiquette, and how to efficiently use the restroom and wash hands thoroughly. Our class did a terrific job listening and learning during our afternoon rotations!  I think we are going to have a a super year!

Learning about to walk in the hallway quietly from Ms. Behnen.

Dr. Parker talking with students about bus behavior.

Ms. Correnti explains cafeteria expectations.

Mrs. Maddock helps students understand how to use recess equipment safely and expected recess behaviors.

Students listen patiently about bathroom expectations.

Lava Lamp Lab

As part of our matter science unit, we learned about density. To show how liquids have different densities, we created "lava lamps". Students did a great job and learned that oil is less dense than water.

First students carefully filled a water bottle with 1/4 water and 3/4 oil.

Then they added 5 drops of food coloring.

Finally, we added an "Alka-seltzer" and watched the reaction.   Groovy!

Angles, Polygons, and Geometry, Oh my!

Learning geometry has been a lot of fun and a lot of new vocabulary!  Students worked with a partner to review polygon shapes and angles.  After identifying the shape they had to decide the measure of each angle (without a protractor) based on what they have learned about right angles, obtuse angles, and acute angles and write down their thinking.  They worked hard and used fantastic reasoning skills!
